Strike Freedom Full Burst: Limited

I put this together to say thanks for 50,000 pageviews on the gallery. I left out a lot in the final image so that I could use the full image later on the web site (when it's finally rolled out). Most of this is, of course, Lightwave -- but a good chunk is photoshop as well. Somewhat similar to the plastic model box art....somewhat.

Finished most of the controls on the console. Getting through the comm unit above the console and then the HiMAT radar in the center console will be last. After all that I think I'll be able to enclose the cockpit. The seat that's presently in the cpit is based on the Freedom/Justice design. "Strike Freedom"/"Infinite Justice" apparently use a slightly different seat, though the console seems to remain largely the same.

Sat down for a few minutes today on this cockpit. Not much progress. Tons of relative scaling issues and detail to work out but the essence is there. I may figure this out by the weekend if I'm lucky.

It's about time. Took forever just to get to this point and now the image looks too saturated with "stuff". Should have made it simpler ;)

Getting there. One Dragoon wing in the back is Armor-less so that I could see how the wing frame turned out. I'm fairly satisfied at this point. The hands have been reshaped as well. The "gold" frame needs a spot of tweaking though.

And installing the wing system. The skeleton of the wing base is somewhat different from the MG. I decided that I wanted to make something a bit more similar to Katoki's vision on his Cosmic Era figure of the same name and so that and the MG version style has been amalgamated in this set of wings. I personally don't like the way they look on the MG.... :( Additionally, the inclusion of the custom skeleton inside of (8) dragoon wings has increased the size/complexity of the mesh by more than I had imagined and so I'll have to cut back a little, probably by "hiding" parts of the frame from the renderer when they don't need to be processed.

No version of the Strike Freedom (including the MG) plastic model has a frame inside of the Dragoon (funnels), so here's a shot at creating one. The reason is that I would like the metal inside of that to "shine" as well.

A lot of the legs are getting done. With the need to have the frame "shine through" the cracks, the frame is more necessary than ever.

Cripes! The arms on the Strike Freedom are fairly boring, even on the MG model so I added an intake above the shoulder verniers and sectioned off the lower arm so that the frame is more viewable. It's somewhat similar to what an artist did in an issue of Dengeki Hobby magazine.

Somehow needs more detail in the frame for the waist and the rear booster, but pushing along.

The rear boosters that also act as the base for the wings. Much larger than the original Freedom's.

Starting the body section. The "frame" in the MG version is a much softer plastic than in the original Freedom MG. Very strange. I may diverge here from the MG a bit.

Moving along with the head. Seems to look a lot like Freedom's head at this point. Have to keep working out a few kinks on it as usual.

So now comes the Strike Freedom. I'm not 100% satisified with the way the plastic model artist (Beecraft) conceived the design for this machine so I'm going to end up changing the style a little and swivel it toward Katoki Hajime's style (mostly for the wings) while keeping the proportions of the MG for most of it. The above left is the 1/60 design of the model while the right (behind) is the Master Grade version of the machine, designed by Beecraft again. Somehow I'm looking for something in between, but I'll see how it progresses from here on...
